Single Touch Payroll (STP) is a payroll reporting system introduced by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) in 2018. It is a digital system that enables employers to report their employees’ payroll information, including their salaries, wages, superannuation contributions, and PAYG withholding, to the ATO in real-time or on the same day they are paid.
Employers or groups of employers who pay $6.5 million or less in Australian taxable wages are subject to a payroll tax rate of 4.75%. For those who pay more than $6.5 million in Australian taxable wages, the payroll tax rate is 4.95%.

In Queensland, payroll tax is assessed based on the amount of wages paid by an employer on a monthly basis.
